How to Find the Perfect Elopement Dress
Tips for Finding the Perfect Elopement Dress
YOU’RE ENGAGED! CONGRATS!! And now you’re planning your dream elopement and are wondering how to pick your dream dress! There are SO many amazing wedding dresses and wedding dress designers out there, so it can be difficult to pick from so many options. How do you narrow it down?
The first thing to consider is what you’re going to be doing on your elopement?
Are you going to be hiking to your ceremony location? Are you going to take a helicopter up to your spot? If you want to be hiking in your dress, you’re gonna want that thing to be LIGHT. And easy to move in. Steer away from mermaid or ballgown shapes if you’re wanting to hike in the dress! If you plan on carrying the dress up the hike and changing at the top, you should stay away from dresses that can’t fold down small enough to fit into your backpack! Dresses made from Chiffon, lace and charmeuse are less likely to wrinkle! Even though some of those big poofy dresses can be beautiful, they’re not going to work super well at your elopement. They’re pretty likely to wrinkle a bunch, and you don’t need to be hauling around a steamer in your bag along with everything else! If you’re getting married in the winter, a knit or a wool will not wrinkle as well!
The Next think to Consider is What the Weather is Going to Be Like
Where are you going? What season is it going to be there? If you’re going to Australia in the summer, you’re gonna want a nice, light dress. If you’re going to Switzlerand in the winter, you’re going to want something a little more substantial. In additional, you’re probably going to want to wear insulated leggings, boots and wool socks so you might want to steer clear of dresses that have a slit up the side or are high-low. If its gonna be cold as ballz, you’re probably gonna want a thicc sweater or cardigan that goes well with your dress. You might be optimistic about doing your ceremony without any extra clothing (you go girl!) but you’re probably going to need to throw it on for photos afterwards. Please don’t catch hypothermia at your elopement. Please don’t let your wedding day be your LAST day lol.
If you think its gonna be windy, like on a mountain or near the ocean, I’d definitely suggest picking a dress that is flowy with plenty of movement to really be able to play with the wind! A real full skirt catches the wind super well and can make some gorgeous photos! If you want to jump in the water at the end of your elopement, make sure to pick a dress that is light enough that you won’t be weighed down when the dress gets soaked!
Lastly, Make Sure to Pick an Elopement Dress That You Looooove
I mean, duh, but really. Don’t pick a dress that you think you look good in, but doesn’t make you feel comfortable. If you’re constantly tugging at a dress all day or feeling self conscious about the fabric laying just right, it will distract you from some of the special moments of your elopement day! AND IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE WHITE. OMG I cannot stress this enough! If you want a blue or pink or RAINBOW dress, WEAR THAT! Pick something that you feel amazing in, and that fits your personality. Girl, even if you look GOOD, if that dress is not YOU, don’t buy it! If you ain’t comfy, you ain’t having fun. Or as much fun as you could be having. Please don’t buy into the “beauty is pain” thing and feel the need to harness yourself into a way-too-tight corset dress for the entirety of the day. Be amazing. Be COMFORTABLE. Be YOU.
Where Should You Purchase Your Elopement Dress?
Okay, you might find your dream dress at a boutique, but you might not. Department stores, dress designers, online boutiques, Pinterest and instagram are great places to look and get ideas for your perfect dress! bhldn, Chantel Lauren, grace loves lace, alure bridals, flora bridal, and Maggie sottero designs are some of my favorite designers!
